Self-Care 101

Self-care is essential to living a happy, healthy, balanced lifestyle. It is a real game-changer in your daily routine and will allow you to appreciate the little things in life. Self-care = key to success!

These are my favorite self-care tips that I’ve learned so far:

1. Make a morning routine

Find a routine that you can stick with and will set you up for the day. A routine helps us gain more control of our lives and how we choose to live it. A good morning routine is key!!!

  • Ex: morning tea, nutritious breakfast, face cleansing, dental hygiene, yoga/stretching, meditation, reflection, etc.

2. Set an intention for the day

This may seem silly, but it actually helps so much. When I wake up, I write down a word that reflects my intention for the day (i.e., positivity, love, kindness, humility). I started doing this at the beginning of the Covid-19 outbreak around April, and doing so helped my confidence and self-esteem a lot. Much easier said than done, but it makes a difference.

3. Have a schedule

This has made my life a lot less stressful. Each person has their way of organizing or planning out their week/month, so figure out what works for you. The point is, schedule what your upcoming days look like and make a plan for yourself. Remember to take a break, exercise, or focus on self-care. You will have much more clarity and awareness of your daily life.

4. TREAT YO SELF!

Whether it’s retail or food therapy (I prefer food therapy), reward yourself with some goodies that you deserve. Of course, you should know your limits, but it doesn’t hurt to treat yourself every once in a while. Get your nails done, go to the salon, shop with friends, go to the movies, buy your favorite dessert-- do something 100% FOR YOU!

5. Communicate with family and friends

Keeping in touch with the people you love is a great way to stay connected and feel supported. Loneliness and anxiety go hand-in-hand, so it’s crucial to maintain relationships with people you care about to share your daily life dramas. It will help you see that you are never alone and that people are looking out for you.

6. Sleep

Depending on the type of person you are, you may not need a set sleeping schedule. Regardless, EVERYBODY NEEDS TO SLEEP (at least 6 hours). It’s important to rest and recharge your body because, as we know, life is not so easy.
